Why Physiotherapy Is So Important For Pain Management

Posted on: 19 September 2022

When it comes to ensuring that your body feels good both now and well into your old age, there are few medical professionals as important as a physiotherapist. While of course, doctors are also important to ensure you have the correct medical treatments and help, physiotherapy is important in ensuring your musculoskeletal system is in good shape and feels comfortable as you get older. That is why it is important you start seeing a physio as soon as you feel any aches and pains that make you uncomfortable and that cannot be treated in your own home.

Reduce Reliance On Medication

In the past, when people got a lot of aches in their joints or muscles, it was common to treat this by simply upping the number of painkillers one would take. While that might provide short-term relief, it was not very good for long-term pain management because it does not solve anything. Drug abuse is also common for those who rely on painkillers too much. However, physiotherapy is a totally natural and targeted way of making your problematic joints and muscles feel better over a gradual period of time.

Increase Range Of Motion

While taking painkillers might help, it will not restore any of your previous range of motion that you may have lost due to injury or pain. If you can't use your arms as well as you used to, or if you struggle to bend over like you could a decade ago, then a physiotherapist can help restore this movement. While it will not happen right away and can take several months to see results in terms of your range of motion, you will begin to feel better almost instantly, and each and every treatment will reinforce just how necessary it is for your overall health and well-being.

Improve Strength

Working with a physio is important for older patients who are starting to lose strength in their muscles and joints. A physiotherapist can help improve your strength by introducing regular exercises and simple movements that you can do at home. Improving your strength is vital to combating aches and pains one naturally faces as you get older. While you don't have to look like a bodybuilder, you should try to look after your body by allowing it to get stronger even as you do start to get a little bit long in the tooth!

Vaccination fact and figures

Before I had my babies, I never realised how much confusion there was over vaccination. There are so many stories swirling around, and it can be really hard for new parents to get a good grasp on the best plan for their child. I thought it would be useful to start a totally neutral blog that looks at the health benefits and effects of vaccination so that parents can make the best decisions for their children. It's so hard and confusing to be a new parent, and I hope that my blog can make it a little easier to make the right decision with regard to vaccination.
